The Alderlea

The Alderlea was created in 1867 for Kenneth Chisholm. Chisholm was a businessman in the Brampton area that was also the son-in-law of founding father of Brampton, John Elliott. This is one of the most classic examples of Brampton architecture. With a beautiful front lawn, garden and park, the Alderlea is now a special events center that you can also visit during the daytime.

St. Mary’s Church

St. Mary’s Church was created in 1909 to accommodate the ever growing need for a Catholic church in the Brampton area. It was a mission church until 1918, with seating for 250 people. The current church on 66 Main Street South was built in 1964 as a secondary church for more than 1000 families that were attending services. The school later opened up in the late 1950’s.

On the site of the Peel County Courthouse you can now find the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives, staff offices, a board room and library.

Andrew Carnegie financed the construction of Carnegie Library in 1906. During this time frame between 1881 and 1917, Carnegie was very involved in the development of the area. Thanks to a $12,000 donation, Carnegie Library was built. Carnegie went on to fund thousands of other libraries all across Canada.
